Thousands sign petitions supporting Market Basket CEO at area stores

Employees and customers of area Market Basket grocery stores have joined their counterparts across two states in a campaign to save their chief executive officer.

Since Saturday, thousands of people have signed petitions at Market Basket stores in Rindge and West Swanzey in an effort to save the job of Arthur T. Demoulas. Tens of thousands more have signed similar petitions at the Chelmsford, Mass.-based company’s other stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, as well as at least one petition on the Internet. The company has 71 stores and roughly 22,000 employees.
